The 勛圖tv's Department of Physics has received an award made in recognition of its work towards achieving gender equality.
It's the third 勛圖tv department to win an Athena SWAN award, following another bronze award for 勛圖tv Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and a silver for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The latter was the first department of its kind in Scotland to win the silver award.
勛圖tv also holds a Bronze institutional award and is one of 111 UK higher education institutions and research institutes signed up to the Athena SWAN Charter.
Bronze Athena SWAN awards are made to departments which:
- demonstrate particular challenges and plan activities for the future
- use quantitative and qualitative assessment to identify challenges and opportunities
- have a plan that builds on this assessment and lessons from any activities already in place.
An independent evaluation by a research team from the University of Loughborough of the impact and effectiveness of the Athena SWAN Charter has confirmed that the awards scheme advances gender equality and changes working cultures and attitudes within participating departments and universities.
勛圖tv’s Department of Physics was presented with its award at a ceremony at the University of Durham.
