Personal statement
James Carroll is a Professor and former Chancellor鈥檚 Fellow in the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering (EEE). James is the Director and PI of the Wind and Marine Energy Systems and Structures CDT (2019 to 2027), he is the 吃瓜tv Director and PI of the new EnerHy Wind and Hydrogen CDT (2024-2032), and is the Co-Lead of the Wind Energy and Control (WEC) Group. WEC is one of the largest university based wind energy research groups in the UK with 8 academics and over 35 researches.聽聽
Professor Carroll joined EEE and the Wind Energy and Control Group in 2012 as a Wind Energy Systems CDT PhD student, he secured a Chancellor鈥檚 Fellowship in 2018 and was promoted to Professor in 2023. His core research areas include wind turbine reliability/maintenance modelling, novel wind turbine development and data driven failure prediction of wind turbine components.聽

Professor Carroll's research focuses on the wind energy area, both onshore and offshore. He has a particular interest in:

- The impact of turbine drive train selection on reliability and cost
- Wind turbine component condition monitoring
- Wind turbine component failure prediction
- Wind turbine component remaining useful life prediction based on data driven machine learning approaches and physical modelling approaches
