Research Interests
One of Joanne’s main research interests is the imposter phenomenon, which is characterised by feeling like a fraud and being unable to internalise success. Joanne's focus is on understanding feelings of imposterism and its relationship with other constructs such as perceived belonging, academic stress, perfectionism and psychological distress reported by students in higher education so that suitable interventions can be designed to support students throughout their academic journey who experience the phenomenon.
Joanne is also passionate about the psychology of physical activity. She has been involved in several research projects designed to increase levels of physical activity and improve psychological and physical health outcomes in stroke survivors. She has knowledge and understanding of intervention research, frameworks and psychological theories used within the physical activity domain. Other interests of Joanne's include cognitive measurement in those who have sustained brain trauma and methodologies such as the N-of-1 approach and time-series analyses.Â
