Personal statement

Tahitia McCabe is the the Knowledge Exchange Fellow for the Postgraduate Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Programme and the Lead Tutor for the PG Certificate Programme. This means I take the lead on the postgraduate programme management, promote the courses generally and do long range planning. I also run the PG Certificate programme on a day to day basis. Education I hold a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in costume design and a BA in History from Southern Oregon State College. I have a MLS (Masters in Library Science) from Syracuse University in upstate New York. I also have a Postgraduate Diploma in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies from the ³Ô¹Ïtv. I did the PG Certificate the second year the course was running and the Diploma the year after. They asked me back to teach and I’ve been here ever since! In 2002, I won a Fulbright Fellowship to the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library in Norwich, Norfolk (http://www.2ndair.org.uk/) and spent two fabulous years as the ‘American Librarian’ doing outreach to community groups, giving lectures in local schools and hosting returning US WWII veterans. Not surprisingly as an immigrant myself, migration is one of my key research interests and I am currently focusing on Americans in Scotland during the 19th century. I’ve also been tracing my American ancestors for years helped by my ancestors’ interest in the subject and verifying this earlier work has been an interesting process. I am a member of the New England Genealogical Society, the Association of Professional Genealogists, the National Genealogical Society and am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
