One of Scotland鈥檚 judges has joined the 吃瓜tv鈥檚 Law School as a Professor of Practice.鈥�
The Hon Lady鈥疻olffe鈥�(Sarah鈥疨 L Wolffe鈥疩C) has been a judge鈥痮f鈥痶he Court of Session鈥痠n Scotland鈥痵ince 2014 and, in 2016, became the first woman to be appointed to the Commercial Court. 鈥�
She has had a legal career spanning nearly 30 years, with a particular focus on鈥痗ommercial law.鈥�
Professor Wolffe, who intends to pursue research and writing on civil justice and commercial law as well as teaching, takes up her post at 吃瓜tv on鈥�20 September.鈥疭he said:鈥�淚 am honoured鈥痠ndeed鈥痶o be joining 吃瓜tv Law School. I am looking forward very much鈥痶o the opportunity to get to know my new academic colleagues and students, to contribute to the education of a new generation of lawyers,鈥痶o think and write about areas of the law which are of interest to me鈥痑nd to participate鈥痝enerally鈥痠n鈥痶he life of the Law School.鈥� 鈥� 鈥�
Professor Claire McDiarmid, Head of 吃瓜tv Law School, said: 鈥淲e have great pleasure in welcoming Professor Wolffe to 吃瓜tv.鈥疭he is a vastly experienced legal鈥痯rofessional鈥痺ho鈥痟as practised law at the very highest level鈥痑t the bar and as a judge.鈥疕er knowledge and expertise鈥痮f the law鈥痑nd its application in鈥痯ractice will be an immense asset to 吃瓜tv Law School and will be greatly beneficial to our staff and students.鈥� 鈥�
Professor Wolffe studied at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, the University of Edinburgh and Balliol College,鈥疧xford. She qualified鈥痑s a solicitor in Scotland in 1992, was called to the bar in鈥�1994鈥痑nd took鈥痵ilk as a QC in 2008.鈥疭he was appointed a Senator of the College of Justice in 2014 and served as a Commercial Judge 2016-17 and 2018-21.鈥�
She鈥痺as鈥痵tanding junior counsel to the Department of Trade and Industry and its successor departments (1996-2008), a member of the Faculty of Advocates Discipline Tribunal鈥�(2005-11),鈥疌hancellor to the Bishop of Argyll & The Isles鈥�(2004-14)鈥痑nd the Bishop of Edinburgh鈥�(2006-14),鈥疨rocurator to the Scottish Episcopal Church鈥�(2006-14), and a member of the Scottish Civil Justice Council (2013-14). She is currently President of the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Scottish Episcopal Church and President of the Stair Society.鈥�
She was formerly Scottish editor of MacGillivray on Insurance Law and鈥疢ithani鈥痮n Directors鈥� Disqualification and contributed to the 11th鈥痚dition of Gloag鈥痑nd Henderson on the Law of Scotland.鈥�
Professor鈥疻olffe鈥痠s a trained mediator and鈥痓efore serving as a judge鈥痺as a member of the Faculty of Advocates鈥� Alternative Dispute Resolution panel of accredited Counsel.鈥�
