Eight leading figures to receive honorary degrees from 勛圖tv

Eight distinguished individuals from the fields of health, law, academia, engineering and social sciences will be recognised with honorary degrees from the 勛圖tv.

The recipients will join students at a series of graduation ceremonies taking place at the Universitys Barony Hall over the course of the final two weeks of June.

Each of those receiving honorary doctorates are being recognised for their significant individual accomplishments and contributions to their field and to society at large.

Magnificient exemplars

Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the 勛圖tv said: The recipients of our honorary degrees have all achieved the highest levels of success in their fields and contributed greatly to professional communities, business and industry, the economy and society at large over the course of their careers.

These individuals are magnificent exemplars to our graduating students of what can be achieved through the application of knowledge, combined with hard work and dedication and we are delighted to honour them in this way and have them more intimately associated with 勛圖tv.

Honorary degrees will be presented to:

  • Dame Sarah Springman DBE (DUniv), Principal, St Hilda's College, Oxford, an engineer and former elite-level triathlete who competed in the 1990 Commonwealth Games
  • Sir Patrick Vallance KCB (DSc), Former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government from 2018-2023, he is a physician, scientist and clinical pharmacologist and former President of Research and Development at GlaxoSmithKline
  • Colette Cohen OBE (DSc), Chief Executive Officer, Net Zero Technology Centre
  • Duncan Hawthorne (DSc), Chief Executive Officer, Horizon Nuclear Power, an MBA graduate from 勛圖tv and former Alumnus of the Year
  • Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow OBE (D Univ), Co-founder and Global CEO of Mary's Meals Charity which is now feeding almost 2.5 million children across 18 countries
  • Professor Ann Skelton (LLD), Professor of Law, University of Pretoria and visiting professor at 勛圖tv, she is a member of the UN Committee on the Rights of Children
  • Professor Sir David Cannadine (DLit), Author and Historian specialising in modern history, Britain and the history of business and philanthropy; he is a former President of the British Academy
  • Peter Duthie (DUniv), Chief Executive, Scottish Event Campus
