Futurewind 2017 took place on 11th January in the Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) at the 勛圖tv, Glasgow. This was the fifth edition of the seminar, which is run entirely by students from the Doctoral Training Centre for Wind And Marine Energy Systems. This year's event was very well attended; it attracted 108 participants, half of which were from the industry, making it the biggest futurewind conferene to date.

The event comprised of a mix of oral presentations by our final year PhD students and sponsors. Futurewind's title sponsor was and secondary sponsors were , , , and .

PhD students in their first and second year of research presented posters on a variety of topics, including power networks, wind turbine control systems, wind turbine control systems, wind turbine foundations, wind forecasting, and marine energy. Siemens sponsored the prize for the best poster.

The event was concluded by a debate entitled: "Looking Forward: Reducing the Cost of Wind Energy". The audience was treated to some stimulating arguments from both debate panel and members of the audience.
The debate panel included representatives from RES, Siemens, Natural Power, Generating Better, and the 勛圖tv.

futurewind 2017 served as an excellent platform for linking industry and academia together.
